Playa del Amor, the most romantic place to visit.
What first would you think about, when you hear a phrase “Hidden Beach”? Perhaps, that it is a quiet, romantic place, where you can be a free dreamer. But… It is not quite so, though it would be wonderful and sometimes it is even possible here. Playa del Amor, more commonly known as the Hidden Beach, is a distinguishing feature of one of the Marieta Islands, located west to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, at the mouth of Banderas Bay. It is the most beautiful place to fall in love and you should definitely visit it, if you appeared in Cabo San Lucas. Picturesque bay, dividing the Californian bay and Pacific Ocean, surrounded by huge rocks.
Although it is not the most solitary beach, it is famous for its magnificent landscape. It is possible to see a Finger of Neptune on this beach, large stone that sticks out into the sea.
Five minutes of walking will bring you to a Divorce Beach (Beach of divorcees). Divorce Beach is not safe for swimming, but it is more isolated, than its neighbor; and those, who can stay on that beach for a long time, what usually most of the tourists do, can enjoy beautiful sunset over the Pacific Ocean. This marine reserve is great for enjoying a wonderful variety of colorful tropical fish. Crystal clear water and rich aquatic world is perfect for diving. However, only from the side of the Californian bay, as from the side of ocean diving is dangerous because of a strong surf.
Advices for tourists
This is a natural beach, so there are no shower cabins here. Do not forget to put a sun cream on, because the sun becomes very intensive during the day, and it is no possibility to hide in the shade, what is common for the beaches of Cabo San Lucas.
How to find this special place
You will not be able to get to the Playa del Amor beach on foot or by car. If you are an unexperienced rock-climber, a journey on an aquatic taxi from Médano Beach or on a yacht will be the best choice. The only way to make it to Playa Del Amor is by swimming or kayaking through a 20 meter (80 feet) long tunnel connecting the tidal side of the beach with the Pacific Ocean. The water level inside the tunnel is not high, so getting there does not impose a big challenge. There are tours on a boat with a glass bottom, which allow you to observe a unique flora and fauna and make lots of beautiful photos, which is possible due to exceptionally clean water.
Playa del Amor is best for romantic things, because it is one of the Los Cabos’ most beautiful beaches, and a perfect place for a romantic picnic. It is one of the most famous beaches all over México, and a mandatory stop for first-time visitors. So, like H. Jackson Brown Jr. wrote in his book P.S. I Love You:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” C’mon, grab your stuff and go for it!
