Eiffel Tower may change its colour
City authorities are planning to repaint the Eiffel Tower to hide rust. Nowadays, ‘Iron Lady’ is covered with a layer of “brown Eiffel” colour. This colour is patented and is close to the natural shade of bronze. However, Gustave Eiffel, who designed the tower, initially considered that it was necessary to paint it red when it was erected.
Originally, the red color protected the tower from rust, but then it was repainted ochre in 1892. The next colour was yellow and even a few shades of brown. At some point, even the ombre effect appeared. Paintwork on the tower was conducted 19 times in just 129 years.
The authorities of the French capital have not yet made a final decision on the choice of colours for the tower. The decision will be taken by the Ministry of Culture of France and Parisians. It is possible that it will remain the same shade.
The Eiffel Tower is painted every seven years, so that the metal is not covered with rust. It takes almost 60 tons of paint to repaint the tower.
Painting of the main attraction of Paris will begin in the autumn of 2018 and will last until the end of 2021. About 40 million euros will be allocated. What is important, the construction will not be closed for tourists.
In total, on the reconstruction of the Parisian attractions in the next 15 years government will spend 369 million euros, including the installation of a bullet-proof wall around the tower.
